Black Velvet is a Sparkle eyeshadow Bobbi Brown released with their eponymous Fall 2010 collection.
Swatches and more details after the jump!
Black Velvet is a smoky purple/plum base with iridescent lilac glitter. It has a smooth formula but is somewhat difficult to work with and an absolute pain to photograph because of the glitter! In pictures, the smoky purple base gets overpowered by the glitter; it's very pretty IRL, I swear! Also, the pan comes across as more blue in photos than it actually is; it is definitely feels like a dark plummy purple. In fact, it's gorgeous. I was struck by how it sparkles in the light. I also find it to be a unique shade; I definitely don't have anything like it in my collection. Here it is taken with flash:
This eyeshadow needs to be patted on rather than brushed. In the beginning I experienced moderate fallout with this eyeshadow, which you can see in the swatch. However, once I learned how to apply the formula correctly, I experienced very little fallout. It stayed put after applied, and overall I was happy with how it wore.
Here are some more swatches, just because it was difficult to get this shadow to come across. Black Velvet in daylight, no flash:

The packaging is Bobbi Brown's standard square eyeshadow pan, but this also includes a clear plastic guard on the inside that flips up.
This was the only piece from the Black Velvet Collection that I picked up, although I was eyeing the Black Plum eye kohl and the Black Maple lipstick. I may still get the lipstick (although I am debating this because I bought Kittenish lipstick from MAC's Fabulous Felines and I really don't wear dark lips that often), but I have heard mixed reviews about the eye kohl. Any thoughts?
