Please bear with me as I digress.
In general I like BB palettes because they are usually very wearable. Admittedly, especially if you are a collector, some of them can be boring and/or redundant. At times, however, I have known BB to put out some truly fabulous palettes.
The last palette I purchased was the Chrome palette last fall/holiday season. I know it had mixed reviews, but I am a big fan. The cool-toned colors work surprisingly well with my warmer complexion. There isn't a lot of shade variation in the palette, but I thought that worked with the "chrome" theme, and I liked how these particular shades of silver/gray pulled slightly purple. And even though lip palettes are usually not my thing, the glosses in the Chrome palette are easy to use with a lip brush and fit with my usual aesthetic. I love that the Chrome palette was a departure from BB's normal "nude" variation offerings. Since it has become so cool and rainy here I have pulled it out again ... still crushin' on it!
This is all to say, as verbosely as possible, that when I saw the Modern Classic I was immediately intrigued.
The Modern Classic Lip and Eye Palette is a successor to the Chrome palette, in that it has the same packaging and product offerings (10 eye shadows, 4 lip glosses, a mini eye shadow brush, and a mini lip brush). The shades in this palette are more wearable, in my opinion, and offer more diversity of color than the Chrome palette.
Right now this palette, along with several other of BB's holiday offerings, are available in the U.S. at Nordstrom stores for $75. None of the holiday palettes have made it to the web in the U.S., as of yet, but they were recently released on BB's UK website.
I JUST brought this home with me so I only have pictures right now, but I swatched the palette when I was at Nordstrom and I was very pleased! I will update with swatches and a review soon. I did my best with the photos ... it is still dark and rainy here.

What do you think of Bobbi Brown's Modern Classic Lip and Eye Palette?
EDIT: Here is a quick-and-dirty side-by-side comparison of the shadows included in the Modern Classic Lip and Eye Palette (top) and last year's Chrome Palette (bottom). I found the Modern Classic palette shadows to be creamier and more pigmented than the Chrome palette shadows. The Modern Classic shadows went on, and showed up, much more easily.
I have posted a comparison pic, for what it's worth. I realize that the individual shades are not the same across the palettes, but looking at the groups overall, the Modern Classic shades appear smoother and more pigmented. Also keep in mind that the lighting is not ideal and the left side of the photo is a bit blurry (where is the sun already?!), so this photo is more to show texture and pigmentation than to represent the actual colors (which are still very pretty IRL!).
EDIT: I have been using this palette everyday since I bought it, and I am very pleased with the smoothness and pigmentation of the shadows. I do have to mention that they tend to crease slightly after a full day's wear (about 8-9 hours), even though I applied Urban Decay Primer Potion underneath. Not a deal-breaker for me, but I thought I would mention it. I haven't worn the lippies yet.
I am very tempted by that but I was a bit disappointed in the texture of the Chrome palette shadows so wonder if this would be the same ?
ReplyDeleteHi Replica! In response to your question, I swatched the two palettes and posted the pic. Personally I think this year's palette is better!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for doing that, really helpful, of course I have to buy it now ;)
ReplyDeleteHaha! I'm proud to be an enabler ;)
